Unearthing the Ancestral Roots of 'Stern' Surname Through iGENEA DNA Test

Family name Stern

Delving into the roots of the Stern surname using the iGENEA DNA test has led to surprising revelations about Eastern European origins and unexpected connections with Stern 'relatives' from around the world.

Having recently conducted an iGENEA DNA test as part of my personal genealogy project, I was fascinated to delve deep into the roots of my surname, Stern. iGENEA test is quite different from a common ancestry test as it focuses on direct paternal or maternal lines. In my case, the purpose of conducting the test was to unveil the ethno-genetic family history linked with my surname, Stern.

The results divided my paternal ancestry into several genetic branches known as haplogroups. Unexpectedly, my predominant haplogroup turned out to be E1b1b, typically found in areas of Eastern Europe, and somewhat rarer in Western Europe and Scandinavia. This facet of my genetic ancestry certainly came as a surprise, as my family has been situated in the UK for several generations.

Moreover, the results segmenting the geographical origin depicted a fascinating diversification. The highest concentration was highlighted in Russia and Ukraine, followed by a significant presence in Germany and Poland, while smaller concentrations appeared in Scandinavian countries. This discovery thrilled me as it solved the mystery of the unusual Scandinavian influences in my family's traditions.

The greatest advantage of iGENEA is their extensive DNA database, which is brimming with individuals aiming to trace their genetic lineage. I was able to connect with others bearing the surname Stern. It turned out that many Sterns from Eastern Europe belong to the same haplogroup, indicating a common ancestry. My interactions with the Stern 'relatives' were informative and interesting, and some even had detailed family trees to share.

In conclusion, the iGENEA DNA test was a revelation. It not only opened the doors to a history I didn't know I possessed, but it also connected me with individuals from all over the world who share the Stern surname. I would highly recommend it to anybody interested in digging deep into the ethno-genetic roots of their lineage.

L. Stern
