iGENEA DNA Test: Delving into the Celtic Roots of the Braxton Surname

Family name Braxton

Unraveling my roots through the DNA testing done by iGENEA has unlocked enlightening insights into my lineage rooted in the Braxton surname. Revealing connections to ancient Celtic tribes and strong allusions to the R1b haplogroup commonly found amongst the Celtic and Viking populace has extended the horizons of my personal history and injected a fresh perspective into understanding my identity.

Exploring my ancestry through the iGENEA DNA test was an eye-opening journey into my past, revealing a richer tapestry of my heritage tightly woven with the Braxton surname. The extensive database of iGENEA allowed me to unearth my lineage and its deep-rooted connections within a global context.

The scientific findings brought forward a fascinating revelation about the Braxton surname. Intriguingly, the Braxton lineage traces back to the Celtic tribes of Western Europe, primarily situated around the regions that now constitute Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.

Celtic markers were identifiably present at significant levels in my Y-DNA, the direct paternal lineage indicator, and my mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), the motherline conduit. This double Celtic imprint is not common and suggests a deep-rooted lineage tied strongly to the Celtic tribes.

The exploration didn't stop there. Additional findings unveiled an unexpected linkage to the R1b haplogroup, the most common haplogroup in western Europe, associated with the historical Celtic and Viking populations. This points to a possible Viking intrusion into the Celtic gene pool of my ancestors, perhaps through past historic interactions between the tribes.

Moreover, through the iGENEA’s Family Finder, I was able to connect with distant relatives sharing the Braxton surname, hailing from different parts of the world, reinforcing just how interconnected we all are, making the world seem a little smaller and a lot more familiar.

This genealogical journey transcended by iGENEA DNA test has given me a potent sense of identity and belonging that I find invigorating. Understanding the rich history that breathes life into the Braxton surname, where we originated, how we moved, and what possible historic events we may have lived through, has crafted an indelible mark upon my person, one that I carry with pride.

G. Braxton
