The DNA of an American President

Lyndon Baines Johnson, known as LBJ, was born on August 27, 1908, in Stonewall, Texas, and was the 36th President of the United States from 1963 to 1969. Before becoming President, Johnson served asSenator from 1949 to 1961 and as Vice President under John F. Kennedy from 1961 to 1963. Johnson's presidency was instituted after Kennedy's assassination in November 1963.

Lyndon B. Johnson came from a Texas family that had farmed for generations. His father, Sam Ealy Johnson Jr, was a farmer and influential state participant in Texas, while his mother, Rebekah Baines, came from a family of pioneers and settlers. She had a high cultural influence on Johnson, who was later influenced by her love of literature and politics.

Because the Johnson family had lived in the United States for generations, extensive genealogical research was conducted.

When he became president, Johnson focused on the domestic problems of the United States and introduced far-reaching social reforms. He is best known for his "Great Society" legislation, which focused on expanding civil rights, public broadcasting, health care, education, and poverty reduction. Johnson also signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, both didactic pieces for the civil rights movement of the time.

His presidency, however, was also marked by the Vietnam War, which was highly controversial both internationally and domestically and greatly affected Johnson's popularity. His intensified involvement in that conflict led to the so-called "credibility gap," which visibly damaged his reputation and the public perception of his governmental moves.

Historians often regard Lyndon B. Johnson as the greatest "political craftsman" in presidential history. Johnson was known for his assertive and coercive leadership style, which became known as the "Johnson treatment." He was notorious for using his charm and persuasive powers to convince both political allies and opponents to support his policy ideas.

Johnson, considered the first president of the United States from the Deep South in decades, has spent his life fighting poverty and injustice, issues that have shaped his political career. Despite controversies, he is respected for his contributions to the civil rights movement, health care, education and the war on poverty.

Lyndon B. Johnson died of heart failure in his native Texas on January 22, 1973, four years into his presidency. He is among the most important figures in American politics in the 20th century, and his formative influence on that pivotal era is still reflected in many aspects of American society and culture.

Lyndon B. Johnson belonged to haplogroup E-M96 (subgroup E1b1b1) in the paternal line.
