Unravelling the Celtic Roots: An Insight into the Surname Rodgers through iGENEA DNA Test

Family name Rodgers

Embracing the iGENEA DNA test was an enlightening experience. The ease and simplicity of the process combined with the intricate and accurate findings considerably broadened my knowledge about my ancestry. From the technical aspects to the explanation of the results, I now better understand, appreciate, and connect with my surname, Rodgers, and its Celtic origin.

Upon undertaking the iGENEA DNA test, I must admit a range of feelings; from being intrigued and curious about my ancestry to feeling a sense of apprehension about the results. The technical aspects of the testing process were simple and straightforward. I was given clear instructions on how to collect my DNA sample, which was essentially a mouth swab. The sample, once collected, was then sent back to iGENEA in the provided packaging.

The actual testing involved analyzing the sample in a genetics laboratory. Specifically, the test focused on my Y-chromosome and mitochondrial DNA, indicators of my paternal and maternal lines respectively. The exactitude of the DNA test largely depends on these factors. Since they only change slightly from generation to generation, these indicators provided a reliable method of tracing my ancestry.

Receiving the results was quite an experience. It took a few weeks from sending off my sample to get the results but the wait was worth it. The results came with a comprehensive report that detailed all the information that the DNA test had unveiled.

The results revealed that my surname, Rodgers, is actually of Celtic origin. On further research, I discovered that Rodgers is a derivative from the famous Celtic word 'Rodgar', which means 'famous spear'. This explains the popular Celtic depiction of a warrior holding a spear, which I now know is an emblem closely associated with my surname.

The accuracy of the results was undoubtedly impressive. The findings by iGENEA were consistent with some of the genealogical research that I’d independently carried out.

Undeniably, the iGENEA DNA test was instrumental in deepening my understanding of the surname Rodgers. I now connect with it on a deeper level as I imagine the Celtic warriors of old who proudly held their 'famous spear'. It also made me appreciate more, the genetic tapestry that is woven into my being, revealing a rich, vibrant historical past. The process with iGENEA has also spurred me on to take a renewed interest in finding out more about my ancestral lineage and possibly discovering new relatives.

B. Rodgers
