Exploring My Ancestry: A Journey Into The Delgado Roots Through An iGENEA DNA Test

Family name Delgado

After activating my iGENEA DNA test kit, I waited anxiously. Receiving the results felt like traveling back in time, offering a sight into my ancestry as a Delgado. This journey led me across the Iberian Peninsula and into the genetic trails of historical migration and cultural evolution.

I received the results from my iGENEA DNA test, and they were enlightening, to say the least. There's a certain fascination that comes with knowing the paths my ancestors may have taken. As a Delgado, I found that my genetic makeup has fascinating tales to tell.

The foremost discovery was about my deep ancestry. Evidently, the surname Delgado can trace its roots back to the Iberian Peninsula. The DNA test showed high connections to the region, which is modern-day Spain and Portugal. The term 'Delgado,' meaning 'thin' in Spanish, was likely derived from someone who was thin or slender in body, initially perhaps as a nickname which later evolved into a surname.

The Y-DNA test results provided the most revealing insights. The dominance of Haplogroup E1b1b1b (formerly E3b3) was particularly intriguing. This male lineage, for the most part, is prevalent in the western Mediterranean region, falling mesh with the historical sway of Delgado's Iberian origins. It seemed to underscore a populace that had inhabited mainly the Spanish and Portuguese landscape in antiquity.

The mitochondrial DNA test added depth to my Delgado ancestry. A high presence of Haplogroup H was found, which is one of the commonest maternal lineages in Western Europe. Another intriguing fact is that it's related to the indigenous Basque people, suggesting a deep maternal lineage connection to this isolative ethnic group in the Iberian Peninsula.

While the DNA test offered valuable perspectives on my roots' historical geographic dispersion, another key piece of information was the Delgado's diaspora. The Delgado line has a significant presence in Hispanic countries in Latin America and the Pacific, such as Mexico, Colombia, and the Philippines, confirming the historical migration of the Iberians during the colonial era.

Overall, the journey through my genetics was incredible. It allowed me a glimpse into the past, creating an intimate connection between me, the realities of history, the journey of a thousand unknown ancestors. It's also a journey that makes me wonder about the future - about the endless possibilities that our genes hold.
